Suresh Prabhu congratulates winners at fifth India Cargo Awards in Agra

The fifth edition of India Cargo Awards celebrated the accomplishments of the cargo industry, at Hotel Clarks Shiraz, Agra, on December 5, 2018. Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Government of India, congratulated the winners through a video message as he could not make it to the event. He said, “I am glad India Cargo Awards is being hosted today. I wish success to all winners. I wanted to personally come and present the award to you but, unfortunately, I am tied up elsewhere. Please consider the awards to be personally handed over by me as recognition of your good work for the industry. The awards are a reminder of what is required to be done to make India the most efficient country for cargo movement in the world.” He also spoke of a comprehensive strategy that is being devised to make movement of cargo hassle-free, cost-effective, and efficient. “We are coming out with an air cargo policy which will be announced in the month of January next year. We are working on a comprehensive strategy to create logistics hubs and I have already spoken to several countries including UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and others in the neighbourhood, as well as far-off countries like Russia. All of this is going to bring in huge change in the way we do logistics in India,” he said. The award ceremony held in Agra was also graced by Dinesh Kumar, Deputy Director, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, who was the Guest of Honour for the glorious evening. Commerce ministry to launch National Logistics portal

The Ministry of Commerce will launch a logistics portal aimed at linking all stakeholders of domestic and foreign trade and all trade activities on a single platform. Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, in his official Twitter account mentioned that the ministry has stepped up work on developing a national logistics portal, as part of its measures to ensure ease of trading and cut high logistics costs from 14 per cent of the GDP to 10 per cent by 2022. “The National Logistics portal will be implemented in phases and will fulfil the commitment of the Government of India to enhance trade competitiveness, create more jobs, provide a boost to ‘Digital India’ and pave the way for India to become a global logistics hub,” Prabhu tweeted.

NID designs logo for India Logistics

The National Institute of Design (NID) has given visual identity to India logistics in the form of a logo. The logo was unveiled recently by Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation. The logo has been designed by a team consisting of faculty members: Tarun Deep Girdher, Amit Sinha, Sudip Adhikary, NID alumna Ankita Talapatra along with T G Shaikh.  According to the concept note, the symbol represents a pair of swans — the bird known for its ability to travel long distances and being compatible in the sky, water and earth. It also represents the agility of India Logistics as the pair portrays teamwork and coordination between various stakeholders. The overlapping white wing represents transparency. The logo is set in Indian tricolour to denote a progressing nation.
