PS Atree, Managing Director, PS Atree & Co, received the ‘Gallery of Legends’ award. With more than 35 years of experience in the industry, Atree established his company in 1989 with a team of three. He has been actively involved in the betterment of the trade and trade partners, and was also the immediate past President of Delhi Customs Clearing Agents Association (DCCAA). He is also a member of many trade facilitation committees designed by the government to facilitate importers and exporters in view of the ease of doing business initiative of the central government. He is also a founder and governing board member of Air Cargo Forum India (ACFI) from the date of constitution of ACFI which works closely with various Industry sectors and continuously identifying areas of air logistics chain for improvement in order to reduce the transaction costs and reduction in the dwell time of the clearance processes.

Parvinder Singh, Managing Director, Hans Infomatic, was awarded the esteemed ‘DDP Trailblazer’ at India Cargo Awards 2019. Singh has been associated with the IT industry for more than three decades. Since 2001, Singh has developed specialised businesses for providing IT solutions and services related to logistics industry. As a software provider, he has been actively promoting the need for paperless transactions in the logistics space. Under his aegis, IGI Airport, New Delhi, has been made totally paperless. He was also instrumental in implementing various automation processes in airports being run by Airport Authority of India (AAI) and land border posts being run by Central Warehousing Corporation and Land Port Authority of India. He is an active participant in IATA’s Strategic Partner programme for Cargo XML and e-freight initiative since 2012 and believes that cloud-based IT products and solutions are key needs for logistic industry.

Maersk Line has completed its first successful shipment of mangoes from Nhava Sheva in Mumbai, to Felixstowe, London. Bombay Exports shipped 21 tonnes of Kesar and Badami mangoes within a period of three weeks through Maersk’s reefer containers that use advance Remote Container Management (RCM) technology. Controlled Atmosphere (CA) is one of the offerings which helps in extending the shelf life of perishable fruits and vegetables by slowing down their ripening process. With this innovative offering, perishable goods, which otherwise required airfreight solutions, can now be shipped. Steve Felder, Managing Director, Maersk South Asia, said, “With the difficulties in airfreight in the current scenario, approximately 200 metric tonnes of air exports of fruits and other perishables are being impacted every week, leading to a huge loss of produce. Furthermore, a strong demand for mangoes in European markets, provided us with a chance to leverage our superior technology in preserving refrigerated (reefer) cargo.

To power the future growth for its end-to-end air cargo and logistics business, IndiGo has partnered with SmartKargo; a cloud-based air cargo management solution. The airline will deploy SmartKargo for its cargo business across all destinations, including domestic and international operations. IndiGo operates on a fleet size of 189 aircraft including 47 new generation A320 NEOs, 127 A320 CEOs and 12 ATRs, across 57 destinations – 48 domestic and nine internationals. Mohan Kash, Managing Director, SmartKargo India, says, “With our unmatched cloud-based technology and out-of-the-box deployment approach, our customers have significant improvements in key performance indicators, in three main areas, i.e. real-time and complete visibility, higher flown and higher yields.” William Boulter, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo, said, “IndiGo cargo has ambitious plans to grow its revenues and remain competitive in this fast-growing area. We needed to have a state-of-the-art technology platform that was fast to deploy and easy to use. SmartKargo includes the local as well as international features needed for our business. After completing his graduation in Entrepreneurship and Finance from Babson College, Boston, USA, Vohra joined his family business and took a tough task of transitioning the first generation business culture to the third generation. His innovative thought process has brought about progressive changes within the organisation in a short span of time. He also initiated and successfully completed restructuring HRD and ERP implementation. Vohra’s positive initiatives have helped secure and align the future path that now enables his company to compete efficiently in the changed economic environment. His maturity and clarity of vision to provide strategic guidance would definitely help the industry in the future.

M. Afzal Malbarwala, Managing Director, Galaxy Freight, was awarded with the prestigious ‘Gallery of Legends’ award. With his rich experience in the freight forwarding industry, he has taken Galaxy Freight to a top position in airfreight and sea-freight industry. Malbarwala strongly believes that success is the product of competitiveness and high standards of quality. The Honorary Secretary General of ACCAI, Malbarwala, is a Commerce graduate and has a genuine, persuasive and interpersonal style that ensures trust to strengthen relationship among clients. He started his career in 1977 in the freight forwarding and logistics industry and started his own company soon after. Galaxy Freight handles approximately 1000 tonnes of airfreight export shipments per month. With more than four decades of experience in the freight forwarding industry, Malbarwala has developed the ability to adapt and cater to different client requirements; thereby, delivering hassle-free solutions.

Chander Agarwal, Managing Director, TCIEXPRESS, shares, “Timely implementation of GST would result in absorption of various taxes involved in transportation of goods and services and will increase efficiency in our operations. Last year, Rs 2.31 lakh crore was announced to be invested in infrastructure, which shows the importance of upgrading infrastructure. Hence, will look forward to some emphasis on improving the infrastructure this year as well as it is a boon not only for express delivery players but many industries. Thirdly, with the recent implementation of demonetisation, the industry is moving towards a digital and cashless mode of transaction. Hence, more incentives for every cashless transaction are expected. This will motivate increased adoption towards technology. Lastly, it will be interesting to look forward to more schemes under Make in India, Skill India, and Digital India initiatives.”
