cargo-partner launched 3rd warehouse at its iLogistics Center in Slovakia

cargo-partner officially launched the construction of the third warehouse hall at its iLogistics Centre in Dunajská Streda, Slovakia. The expansion will almost double the storage capacity from the current 27,600 to 50,000 pallet spaces, and will create 60 to 70 additional jobs at the new facility, says an official release. “cargo-partner has been operating in Slovakia for 30 years and is one of the most successful freight forwarding providers in the country. The company reported a turnover of nearly €140 million in 2022, and currently employs more than 200 logistics specialists across its branch offices in Bratislava, Dunajská Streda, Žilina, and Košice.” The iLogistics Centre in Dunajská Streda has been in operation since 2012, gradually expanding to meet growing customer demand for logistics solutions, the release added. “The previous expansion in 2020 increased the warehouse capacity to 18,200 m². The construction of the third hall marks the fourth and final phase of the project, bringing the storage capacity of the logistics complex to 34,300 m² on a site of 60,000 m².” The warehouse’s strategic location and direct connection to the Metrans intermodal terminal allow cargo-partner to reduce handling time by one to two days, resulting in significant ecological and economic advantages, the release said.

DP World, NSDC join forces to upskill workforce

NSDC International, an enabler for global skilling solutions and We One, part of DP World, signed an agreement aimed at supporting the skill development and employment opportunities for the front-line workforce. The agreement was exchanged between Honourable Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship of India, Dharmendra Pradhan, and His Excellency, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World in the august presence of Sunjay Sudhir, the Ambassador of India to the UAE and Shri Satish Kumar Sivan, the Honourable Consul General of India to Dubai along with other officials. The signing event comes in continuation of a Memorandum of Understanding inked in May 2022 between NSDC International and Hindustan Ports (a DP World Company) to establish the Skill India International Centre in Varanasi, as a global centre of excellence for skills. In line with this, DP World collaborated with NSDCI to set up the Skill India International Centre at Varanasi which provides front-line workforce with services such as skill training, counselling, mobilisation, pre-departure orientation, foreign language training, placement and immigration and post-placement support. Speaking at the event, Honourable Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship of India, Shri. MoU worth $28 mn signed to build new warehouse to meet global needs

DP World and BoxcoWorld FZE, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with to invest USD 28 million in the construction of a cutting-edge warehouse facility in Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA), UAE to cater global needs. The agreement was signed by Abdulla Al Hashmi, COO, Parks & Zones, DP World, UAE Region and Vir Kotak, Founder, BoxcoWorld. The new facility will cater to the warehousing demands of its existing customers, providing them with a state-of-the-art facility equipped with one-window logistical solutions. The industrial bloc will offer sorting and repackaging services for imported waste paper, primarily from the USA and Europe. After the sorting and repackaging process, the waste paper will be re-exported to markets in the Indian subcontinent and Far East Asian regions. The facility is projected to have a throughput of approximately 15,000 TEUs. Additionally, a 40,000 CBM robotic racking system for Polymers will be created, which is a unique and pioneering initiative set to be the first of its kind in the GCC. The warehouse facility will serve as the ideal destination for customers to efficiently manage their import and export cargo with minimal delays when connecting to and from vessels. It will also be efficiently equipped to provide customizable on-site storage solutions tailored to the unique requirements of clients and their business needs. Logistics sector to touch 38 mn. Sq. ft. in 2023: Report

Industrial & Logistics (I&L) sector is likely to touch a 5-year high absorption mark and touch 36 to 38 mn. sq. ft. in 2023 across top 8 cities in India, says CBRE South Asia in its latest report – India Market Monitor Q3 2023. Supply addition, too, is expected to outperform, touching 35 – 37 mn. sq. ft. by the year-end, driven by the completion of pent-up projects. The leasing in the I&L sector grew by 13% Y-o-Y in the Jan-Sep’23 period. The total absorption across the top 8 Indian cities stood at 27.3 mn. sq. ft, compared to 24.2 mn. sq. ft. in Jan-Sep’22. Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi-NCR collectively accounted for a share of 56% in the leasing activity during the Jan-Sep’23 period, the report adds.

DP World Cochin embarks on the next phase of capacity expansion

International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) operated by DP World at Cochin, announced the arrival of four new Electric RTG (Rubber Tyred Gantry) Cranes at its terminal on 17th of October. The cranes arrived on the vessel m.v. Pietersgracht which berthed at the terminal around 1100 hrs. This development is in line with ICTT’s commitment to fulfil its expansion and sustainability plans in achieving its medium-term objective to be the most preferred gateway for South India and a leading transhipment Terminal for India. The introduction of the E-RTGS at ICTT also aligns with DP World’s overall sustainability target of achieving 28% CO2 reduction by 2030. The arrival of these four new electric RTG cranes along with the expected arrival of 2 state of the art STS (Ship-to-Shore) Mega Max cranes in December 2023 would be an important milestone for DP World Cochin, in its capacity enhancement as well as sustainability objectives. Škoda opens 16000 sq. mt. CKD warehouse in Pune

Škoda Auto has opened a new 16,000 sq. mt. facility in Pune, India which will be used to pack complete knockdown (CKD) kits of its Kushaq and Slavia models for export to Vietnam. There, the CKD kits will be welded, painted and assembled at a production line currently being built in Quãng Ninh province and expected to open in the first half of 2024. “With the opening of the new Parts Expedition Centre, we are paving the way for exporting CKD units from India to Vietnam,” said Andreas Dick, head of production and logistics at Škoda Auto. “This represents a crucial step in effectively leveraging the synergies between these strategically important markets. As we gear up to export our products to additional emerging markets, the Parts Expedition Centre may also serve as a logistics hub for the Asean region.” Škoda began selling vehicles in Vietnam in September this year, starting with the Karoq and Kodiaq models, which are exported there from Europe. CKD exports from India will begin with the Kushaq next year, followed by the Slavia. Škoda said it is also considering selling the Superb and Octavia models on the Vietnamese market in the near future.

Amazon tests humanoid robot and automations for warehouse overhaul

Amazon is testing out automation services for its warehouses, including trials for a humanoid robot. The humanoid robot is called Digit, is bipedal and can squat, bend and grasp items using clasps that imitate hands. Built by Agility Robotics Inc. and will initially be used to “help employees consolidate totes that have been emptied of items,” the company said in a blog post. Apart from Digit, they are testing a technology called Sequoia, that is designed to identify and sort inventory into containers for employees, and enhance speed of warehousing processes. Sequoia is said to be reducing order processing time by around 25 per cent, and will help warehouses go more towards an assembly line warehouse from the traditional warehouse.

WOLP to build build-to-suit facility for Montra Electric

Welspun One Logistics Parks (WOLP) has announced a build-to-suit (BTS) lease agreement with Montra Electric (from TIVOLT). Under the agreement, WOLP will construct a BTS facility that would incorporate Montra Electric’s retail experience centre and a separate assembly space catered to four-wheeler small commercial electronic vehicles (EVs). This warehousing project is part of the MoU signed by Welspun One and the Tamil Nadu government in November 2021, with an investment of Rs. 2500 crore. It is located within the WelspunOne logistics and warehousing park in Chinnambedu, Chennai, and the unit is expected to begin operations by the second quarter of 2024.
