Ahmedabad Custom Brokers Association (ACBA) tied up with Logistics Skill Council to impart one day program on ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ at Ahmedabad. Around 220 candidates from logistics industry had attended this training program and 194 candidates has successfully appeared for examination after completion of session. Samir J. Shah, Ex-Chairman, FFFAI & Chairman, ACBA has explained about the recognition of prior learning and benefits of the same. He also explained the upcoming changes in Indian customs, shipping and logistics. The program not only helped candidates to sharpen their knowledge but get the deep idea of the changing pattern and scenario of logistics Industry in coming time. “ACBA will organise same type of training session in upcoming days for the betterment of logistics industry informs,” Kartik Pancholi, President, ACBA.

In its pursuit for innovation and pioneering efforts in the technological application tools, Skyways Group launched a web-based business venture sKart. As per the nomenclature changed in Customs Brokers Licensing Regulations – 2013, Ahmedabad Custom House Agents’ Association (ACHAA) will now be known as Ahmedabad Custom Brokers’ Association (ACBA). The new name and registration have been also granted under the Societies Registration Act, 1660 and under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. The announcement of new name has been made by Devang Joshi – the then President ACHAA, during the Annual General Meeting of the association. Parag Baraiya, the then Hon. Secretary, ACHAA, announced the first new managing committee formed under ACBA as: Samir Shah, Chairman Kartik Pancholi, President Devendra Thakker, Vice President Darshan Mashroo, Hon. Secretary Chinmay Kothari, Hon. Jt. Secretary Viral Zaveri, Treasurer Rakesh Oza, Managing Committee Member The new managing committee has taken the charge of association immediately after the AGM and the first meeting of ACBA.

With an interest to strengthen pharma supply chain in the country, GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL) has entered into an agreement with Agility. “As the operator of India’s first Pharma Zone offering an unbroken cold chain from truck-dock to the airside, Hyderabad Airport has been a strong proponent of collaboration with the industry leaders to help strengthen the pharma supply chain in the country,” said SGK Kishore, CEO, GHIAL. With the new partnership, GHIAL hopes to strengthen the supply chain system in India and pharma cargo sector.

ESR, the Warburg Pincus-backed company, is planning to develop a 300,000 square metre (3.2 million square foot) logistics park on the site in Haryana state. The company acquired the land parcel, which is adjacent to the 223,000 square metre Keystone Knowledge Park science and technology hub. “ESR India is committed to building institutional grade logistics infrastructure to facilitate the development and modernisation of the nation’s supply chain. ESR Sohna will be well-positioned to cater to the needs of the expanding e-commerce industry with state-of-the-art infrastructure to aid advanced supply chain and logistics processes,” says, Abhijit Malkani and Jai Mirpuri, Country Heads of ESR India, in a joint statement. Located in the city of Sohna, 55 kilometres south of Indira Gandhi International Airport, the proposed high-spec park will support last-mile delivery for the business hubs of New Delhi, Gurugram and Faridabad.

Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) is likely to start coastal shipping services in the country’s eastern coast, linking Chennai Port with Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka. The eastern coast service will be run with two ships hired by Vishwa Samudra from the market. The 10-year contract deploys two coastal ships capable of carrying as much as 700 twenty-foot equivalent units with maximum gross weight of 21,000 tonnes (cargo plus container weight). The company had picked Vishwa Samudra to launch the Western coast service last year through a tender, seeking to benefit from the impetus given by the government to the waterway mode to decongest road and rail. Bangladesh’s booming economy has earned it the status as the fastest-growing economy in the Eastern hemisphere. The country’s GDP grew by 8.1 per cent in 2019 and is forecast to expand by 8 per cent this year also, according to the Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB).

  JSW Infrastructure has signed a Concession Agreement with New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) to develop and operate its first container terminal project at the port for 30 years. JSW Infrastructure is investing nearly Rs300 crore to develop the container terminal which will have a capacity of 400,000 TEUs. As part of the proposed investment, JSW Infrastructure will undertake mechanisation of Berth No 14 for handling containers and other cargo on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis. The container terminal will have a quay length of 350 meters and accommodate vessels up to 9000 TEUs. It will have a backup storage area of 15.5 hectares for storage of container. Commenting on the development Arun Maheshwari, Joint MD & CEO, JSW Infrastructure said, “Container terminal at NMPT will enable us to expand our footprints in container segment and diversify our cargo mix. We expect to commission the terminal by mid of next year. It will play a key role in economic development of NMPT and the entire region expanding upto Mysore, Hassan and Bengaluru.”

N Sivasailam, Special Secretary – Logistics, Department of Commerce, Government of India has kindly consented to grace the India Cargo Awards 2019. India Cargo Awards 2019 are scheduled to be held on January 27, 2020 from 7 pm to 10 pm at the Crowne Plaza Greater Noida. Sivasailam is an officer of the 1985 batch of the Indian Administrative Service allotted to Karnataka Cadre. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering, University of Delhi. He did his Master’s in Business Administration at the Faculty Management Studies, University of Delhi, and Master’s in Social Policy & Planning from the London School of Economics and Post Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights Law (IPRL) from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore. Prior to this assignment, he served as an Additional Chief Secretary in the Department of Public Enterprises, Government of Karnataka. He has served in the Departments of Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education, Forest, Ecology & Environment Departments of the Government of Karnataka as Principal Secretary.

Flipkart has led a US$ 60 million investment in Shadowfax to strengthen its logistics network in the nation. “We have seen strong synergies with Shadowfax through our existing engagement with them, and their investments in tech-enabled innovations will help us significantly reduce delivery time and provide superior customer experiences across product categories. By leveraging kirana stores and the deep delivery capabilities of Shadowfax and other Flipkart-led innovations, we are building a strong foundation to make inroads into a dynamic hyperlocal consumer market,” said Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Chief Executive Officer, Flipkart. The Series D funding round also saw the participation of Eight Roads Ventures, NGP Capital, Qualcomm Ventures, Mirae Asset Naver Fund, and the World Bank-backed International Finance Corp.

Allcargo Logistics has forayed into the express logistics space by acquiring a controlling stake in Gati. The company has added another domestic service to its portfolio by entering a segment which has been growing exponentially through this transaction. “The exponential rise in cross-border and domestic e-commerce has opened up new markets for traditional express players such as Gati. With Allcargo’s existing strength in the ocean transportation business and Gati’s expertise in land and air transportation, we are now in a unique position to offer our customers a suite of truly multimodal solutions,” comments, Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman, Allcargo Logistics. According to a study led by Deloitte in 2018, the express logistics industry is expected to reach Rs48,000 crore (US$ 7 billion) by 2023. This growth will primarily be driven by domestic consumption, shift from unorganised to organised trade, e-commerce (domestic and cross border) and significant demand from the small and medium B2B segment.
