Preparing for a progressive transformation near Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport), Bengaluru Airport City Limited (BACL) unveils investment plans for a two million square feet Business Park and 775 keys Hotel. In a positive stride towards sustainability and technological innovation, the biophilic-inspired Business Park by BACL promises smart workspaces within a vibrant public realm. Seamlessly blending work and play, the development aims to cater to the diverse needs of businesses and employees, offering a dynamic environment for growth and collaboration. The project’s most exceptional and breathtaking attribute lies in the Urban Forest, a lush oasis in the centre of the development. This green space will serve as a focal point, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the area. The upcoming Metro station in Airport City will provide seamless connectivity to the Business Park from the northern side, ensuring convenient accessibility.
Rao Munukutla, CEO of BACL – a wholly owned subsidiary of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), spoke about the investment in the development of the business park. “This investment by BACL will propel our vision of transforming the Airport City into a bustling hub for businesses, knowledge-intensive zones, R&D centres and Global Capability Centres. With world-class infrastructure and a focus on sustainability, our goal is to create a thriving environment that nurtures growth, brings in job opportunities and makes a positive socio-economic impact on the region.”
The transformative journey continues with the expansion of the hospitality and entertainment offerings within the Airport City – the Business Park will be accompanied by a Combo Hotel and a Concert Arena.
Combo Hotel
The Combo Hotel is poised to become one of the largest hospitality establishments in India. Comprising a total of 775 keys, the hotel will feature the Vivanta brand with 450 keys, along with the Ginger brand providing 325 keys. Anticipated to be completed by the end of 2026, this grand addition will further solidify the Airport City’s standing as a top-tier destination for both business travellers and tourists.
“The 775 keys Combo Hotel’s design philosophy encompasses universal, minimalist, and sustainable principles, aiming for efficiency while prioritising simple, intuitive, and responsive customer-centric design, all geared towards occupant wellbeing. The design also ensures a comfortable experience for guests, while also meeting the three pillars of sustainability: people, planet, and profit”, added Rao Munukutla.
The existing hospitality landscape within the Airport City has also witnessed significant expansion, with the renowned Taj Bangalore hotel now offering a total of 370 keys to cater to the growing demand for 5-star accommodation choices in the area. This strategic growth in hospitality options is tailored to enhance visitor experiences and meet the evolving needs of the expanding Airport City.
Concert Arena in Airport City
An exciting addition to the Airport City’s allure is the upcoming Concert Arena – a first-of-its-kind arena in the country in an airport ecosystem, will have an impressive capacity to host 10,000 attendees. Scheduled to open its doors within the next couple of years, this state-of-the-art venue will set the stage for spectacular events and concerts, further elevating the Airport City’s profile as a hub for entertainment and cultural gatherings.
All these upcoming facilities are poised to inject new energy and excitement into the Airport City’s social and cultural scene, drawing visitors from far and wide.
Other notable Assets
A 3D printing facility, in technical collaboration with Voxeljet Germany, is already operational from July 2022 within the Airport City. Additionally, SATS Singapore has established a technologically advanced Central Kitchen, operational since March 2024, capable of producing up to 170,000 ready-to-eat meals per day.
Sustainable Infrastructure
This expansion aligns with BACL’s focus on sustainability and has earned the company the Indian Green Building Council’s (IGBC) Green Cities Platinum certification. This is in recognition of its environmentally conscious approach to urban development. Grounded in a sustainability-centric ethos, BACL’s urban design guidelines prioritise green initiatives across all facets of planning and construction, ensuring that the Bengaluru Airport City evolves as a sustainable and eco-friendly urban centre.
Bengaluru Airport City’s Urban Design Guidelines are aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals by promoting mixed use development to ensure that the Airport City becomes inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
