Chennai airport shares expansion plans, to build cargo terminals

Chennai airport is working on building a masterplan to expand across Adyar River to handle more cargo and passengers per annum. According to official reports, the airport is keen to hire a consultant to prepare the masterplan for the next 50 years. The masterplan is expected to be ready within six months. Dr Sharad Kumar, Director, Chennai Airport said in a statement, “The airport expansion will take place along with the proposed second airport. Modernization of the airport will enable it to handle 35 million passengers, and after expansion, it will handle 50 to 60 million passengers. We will build terminals and cargo complexes. We should have the handling capacity before demand peaks.”
