Maharashtra to have 5-6 logistics parks: Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari said that five to six logistics parks will be set up in Maharashtra on behalf of his ministry. He said construction of dry ports at Jalna and Wardha was complete and work on similar ports in Nashik and Pune was being undertaken. The minister was speaking at the 11th Biennial International Conference on Ports, Shipping and Logistics. Gadkari said passenger water transport between Mumbai and Goa would be a game-changer in the region as it is very cost-effective compared to road and rail transport. The cost of transport would further come down if alternative fuels are used. The Union government has started work on 36 green highway projects, and it is paying more than the market value as compensation for land acquired for them, he claimed. That’s why land acquisition is no longer a problem when it comes to highway projects. We are working to reduce logistics cost to 9% by 2024. it is currently 14-16%. Better roads and lower logistics costs will help in enhancement of trade business and industry,” Gadkari said.

Cargo between NE and Chittagong port to start soon

Cargo transit and transhipment between Northeastern India and Bangladesh via Chittagong port will begin soon, according to the neighbouring country’s Minister of State for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury. Tripura is set to become the “Gateway of the North East,” with access to Bangladesh’s Chittagong port, which is only 70 kilometres from Sabroom in the northeastern state,” he said. “We are ready to begin transit and transhipment of goods between Bangladesh and India’s northeastern region through Chittagong.” Trial runs have been completed, and all immigration and customs formalities on the Bangladesh side are also complete,” Chowdhury said. UPS opens healthcare logistics facility for global customers

UPS Healthcare has more than doubled the size of its healthcare logistics facility in Blonie, Poland. More than 17,000 sq m of space has been added to the site, which is dedicated to the storage of temperature-sensitive treatments between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius and between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. It now offers space for 23,000 pallet positions. The facility is powered by 100% renewable electricity and has an array of solar panels providing 50,000 kWh of energy a year. The facility is supported by more than 300 specialised temperature-controlled vehicles. It serves customers supplying both within Poland and internationally, including elsewhere in Central and Eastern Europe, Turkey, and the CIS Free Trade Area. “The logistics hub in Błonie is part of a pan-European cold chain network that provides our customers with comprehensive, high-quality end to end solutions,” said Fredrik Jansson, managing director, Central and Eastern Europe for UPS Healthcare Europe. A cumulative annual growth rate of 10% is predicted for the Polish healthcare market between 2022 and 2027. To support such growth in Poland and elsewhere, this year UPS Healthcare expects to add a total of more than 200,000 sq m of warehouse space, of which about half will be in Europe. One its newest logistics facilities was recenty opened in Poland’s largest healthcare export market, Germany. Hermes extends contract to support cargo security, speed, volume

Hermes Logistics Technologies (HLT) is set to upgrade long-term customer Groundforce Portugal to its latest cloud-based Hermes 5 cargo management system, Hermes Software as a Service (SaaS), bringing major enhancements to security and increasing the speed, volume, and accuracy of cargo processing at three of the handler’s Portuguese stations. Qatar Cargo strengthens global air cargo network with new B777Fs

Qatar Airways Cargo expands cargo network as the carrier has introduced direct freighter service from Bogotá, capital of Colombia to Dallas Fort Worth in Texas. The once weekly Boeing 777 freighter departs from Bogota on Mondays and flies to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The freighter offers close to 100 tonnes of cargo capacity and will be transporting perishables like flowers, fruits, vegetables, coffee, as well as live animals, machinery and other general cargo destined for DFW. Guillaume Halleux, Chief Officer Cargo at Qatar Airways said: “The Americas is highly important for us and we have a strong presence in the region. Through this enhancement on the route, we are pleased to grow our existing partnership with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
