1st phase of Mappedu MMLP will be ready by February 2026

The first phase of a multimodal logistics park that is coming up at Mappedu in Chennai will be ready by February next year, said Sunil Paliwal, chairperson of Chennai Port Authority and Kamarajar Port Limited, in Coimbatore in reports. The park is coming up at an investment of ₹350 crore by the concessionaire in the first phase and it will be completed in three phases at a total investment of ₹1,400 crore, he told the media. There is a plan for a multi modal logistics park in Coimbatore too. Talking about the scope for increase in handling of cargo that is generated or arriving to the western districts by the Chennai Port and the Kamarajar Port, he said the scope is high for engineering and project cargo shipped for destinations in the east and also for imports coming from the countries in the east. About 20% of export cargo generated from Coimbatore and nearby districts are handled by the two ports. There can be talks with the shipping lines to stock empty containers in Coimbatore that can be used by the exporters to ship from the Chennai and Kamarajar ports, he added.
